Senior care is the life’s work of nationally recognized senior care experts Teresa L. Whittington, RN, BSN, and Godwin Dixon, NFA. Teresa’s House is their passion project and their crowning achievement.
Godwin and Teresa met in 1997 while working for a locally owned, elite senior care company. Together, they helped design and open North Dallas’ leading community at the time, earning significant local media attention for their accomplishments. Godwin was later recruited to serve as CEO of the Presbyterian senior care system in Dallas—a role he held for 17 years (1999–2016)—and asked Teresa to serve as COO. Teresa went on to hold COO roles for three leading not-for-profit organizations.
Over the course of their careers, they have received national and international recognition for their work in senior care and memory care. Their expertise has been featured by NBC Nightly News, U.S. News & World Report, CNN Headline News, D Magazine, The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Business Journal, and the local FOX, CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliates, among numerous other publications. They have also earned extensive recognition for quality, including consistent 5-Star regulatory ratings and even a perfect 5-Star score—a rare achievement.
Although proud of their accomplishments, they believed senior care could be even better and set out to redefine it. Knowing that most seniors did not grow up in facilities or apartments, but in homes, they envisioned and created state-of-the-art, senior-care-specific homes where warm, loving care could be provided. With a combined 78 years of experience, they had seen corners cut across the industry—and built Teresa’s House as the company where no corners are cut, ensuring the very best for every resident.

Both of us were blessed in the sense of being raised in families that taught us the importance of hard work, honesty, and kindness. We were taught to always give our best, and our purpose, “Seek to Serve,” is woven into everything we do.

Our work has been featured on NBC Nightly News, CNN, US News and World Report, and various DFW media outlets. Despite our successes, we saw an opportunity to improve senior care. In the late 90s, Teresa, a SAGE Federation member and former board member, suggested that Godwin use a personalized home model for assisted living and memory care.
This vision led to Teresa’s House, built on a passion for excellence.
At Teresa’s House, we asked: What would our parents want? What would we want? The answer was clear: a home-like environment where residents can live fully.

If I could give Teresa House 15 stars, I would. I don’t believe there is a better facility in the Dallas area to care for your loved one. My mom has dementia and was not getting the care she needed at an Asst. Living facility. My sister and I visited numerous facilities and from day one, we knew Teresa House was different. TH celebrates the life your loved ones have left and helps them enjoy every day. They have activities catered to memory care patients seven days a week. The meals are a sweet time for each house to come together (and the food is delicious). The facilities are beautiful, yet the homes feel like a home and not an industrial facility. They take impeccable care of the lawns and landscape and thought through every detail of comfortable porches and walking paths. But what sets Teresa House apart from the rest is their staff. My mom’s house has the most loving and kind ladies helping her. Fancy and Gabi are two that have been there since my mom’s first day. It was hard moving my mom but watching Fancy love on her and Gabi care for her as if she were her own mom, helps me relax and know she is in the right place. And quite frankly, my mom is with it enough that she would let us know if she was not happy (and boy would she let us know 😊). Instead, she tells us how much she likes where she lives and is always asking us “how do I thank them for helping me”? Thank you Godwin and Teresa for creating such an incredible and unique place for loved ones to live.
